Parliament approves government’s structural changes

New structural changes of the Government of Georgia will soon come into play, where several ministries will be merged, while some of them will be abolished.

The youth affairs component of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs will be merged with the Ministry of Education and Science, while the sport component of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs will be merged with the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Recourses Protection will be merged with the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Ministry of Energy will be incorporated into the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. Also, the Natural Resources component of the Ministry of Environment will be merged with the Ministry of Economy.

Following these amendments, approved today by the Parliament of Georgia, three ministries will be abolished – Ministry of Enviroment and Natural Recources Protection, Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Energy.

The Parliament of Georgia has approved the legislative amendments related to structural reorganisation of government with the third reading, where 86 voted in favour of the amendments in the Law of Georgia on the Structure, Authority and Rules of Operation of the Government of Georgia.

Following the legislative amendments the Emergency Management Agency of the Interior Ministry and the State Ministry for Euro-Atlantic Integration of Georgia wil also be abolished.

Once the newly approved laws will be published and come into play the ministers will be appointed in accordance with the new structure, which will be followed by the next process – Parliament will express confidence in the Government.
