Vice President of European Parliament Ryszard Czarnecki said Georgia holds an important place in the European family and is an essential part of the European culture, history and civilisation.

Meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze in Brussels, Belgium earlier today, Czarnecki said Europe’s political future cannot be imagined without Georgia.

I think the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit will be yet another step forward for Georgia and other countries. We should open doors to cooperation not only in the economic direction but also on the political level”, Czarnecki said, adding the EU should show Georgia and other countries of the region the real prospects for integration.

Foreign Minister Janelidze is paying a two-day visit to Brussels. Within his visit Janelidze has met with different political groups, while tomorrow he will address members of the European Parliament at the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Expressing his support towards Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, MEP Andrejs Mamikins said he believes Georgia’s integration with Europe will positively affect the peaceful solution of the conflict.

I absolutely believe that one day Abhazia and Tskhinvali will return to Georgia’s constitutionally defined area”, Mamikins said welcoming the accessibility of the visa-free regime for those living in Georgia’s Russian occupied regions.

Welcoming Janelidze’s visit to Brussels prior to the Eastern Partnership Summit, yet another MEP Clare Moody said Georgia is a clear leader among the EaP countries.

We support [Georgia’s] progress achieved in various directions from democratization to judiciary and economic development. EU supports Georgia in all these directions and we should make sure this support will continue to benefit the Georgian people”, Moody said.

Launched in 2009, the EaP aims at promoting "political association and economic integration" between the EU and the six Eastern European partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

Georgian state delegation lead by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili will take part in the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit (EaP) in Brussels, Belgium on November 24.
