A short film by two Georgian directors has become the winner of Sydney Indie Film Festival as the best science fiction piece.

The apocalyptic short 8 Minutes by Giorgi Gogichaishvili follows different characters in their decisions in an apocalyptic scenario of the sun’s light going out.

The script mainly follows its principal protagonist in his decisions over eight minutes — the time needed for the sun’s rays to cease reaching the planet — before the total blackout.

The Sydney Indie Film Festival features some of the best of independent cinema from around the world, including a mix of award winning films and outstanding emerging talent in the film industry”, the festival’s official webpage says.

Prior to this Sibler Films’ debut production has become the first production from the country to be selected among finalists of the Manhattan Short Film Festival this August.
