Georgia has become the chair of the Paris-based Permanent Secretariat of the Leading Group on Innovative Financing.
Assuming the chairmanship at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York last night, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili hoped that Georgia will thus contribute to global efforts aimed at promoting innovative funding.
We look forward to taking over this new role and galvanising global action in coordination with the UN, government, private and civil society partners”, Kvirikashvili said.

Taking the role of chairperson Georgia will now act as a leader in promoting innovative financing for development and disseminate relevant messages to the international community.
Kvirikashvili said that Georgia's Government-initiated Solidarity Fund is a good model of innovative funding for a specific health intervention – high cost treatment of children and youth living with cancer, which has already mobilised over 60,000 civil servants and 50 companies to take action.
