Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze stated at the UN General Assembly in New York that it is important for the government of Georgia that the country’s issues be appropriately discussed in all directions at the UN and Georgia-related topics to be active in the organization’s agenda.
Georgia is actively involved in fulfilling the UN’s goals, which deal with current challenges in the world,” Janelidze stated.
We are also active in fulfilling the UN’s sustainable development goals and Georgia’s progress in this regard is proved by our leadership of the Open Government Partnership,” the Minister said.

It is important for us that Georgia-related issues be always active in the UN agenda,” Janelidze added.
The Minister stated that Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili’s scheduled speech at the 72nd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations would concern the country’s existing challenges and occupation as well as completed and planned reforms for the state development.
Within the UN assembly Janelidze has already met several of his foreign counterparts from Columbia, Liechtenstein, the Vatican and Vanuatu and Guyana.

Maria Angela Holguín Cuellar, a Foreign Minister of Columbia and Minister Janelidze stressed the successful cooperation between the two nations and highlighted the creation of Georgia’s friends group in the Colombian parliament.
The officials discussed planned Columbian cultural days in Tbilisi this year.
Cuellar praised successful Georgian reforms and expressed the wish of sharing Georgia’s experience in the electronic governance.

Meeting with the Foreign Minister of Vatican highlighted the importance of Pope’s visit to Georgia and fruitful cooperation in the fields of education, tourism, culture and people-to-people relations.
Georgian and Vanuatu officials spoke about the potential of cooperation in education, tourism and stressed the importance of people-to-people relations.
Janelidze briefed all the ministers about Russia’s illegal activities on Georgian soil.
The Georgian Minister has already participated at the event organized by the Atlantic Council- Annual Global Citizens Awards.
