30 Georgian schools fully rehabilitated thanks to US Millennium Challenge Corporation

Thirty Georgian schools have been fully rehabilitated thanks to funding allocated by the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), improving education environment for more than 10,000 pupils.

 The schools were rehabilitated in eastern Mtskheta –Mtianeti, Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti and western Racha-Lechkhumi regions, Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia (MCA-Georgia), responsible for the implementation of the MCC compact stated.

The rehabilitated schools were also equipped with labs.

Reagents and 140 types of special devices and equipment are in the labs,” MCA Georgia stated.  

MCA Georgia announced that 30 more schools in eastern Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe Javakheti regions are being rehabilitated which will improve learning conditions for more than 13,000 pupils.

  • Georgia started implementing its first $395 million US MCC Compact in 2007 and this finished in 2011.
  • The first Compact mainly focused on infrastructural development.
  • Georgia gained its second Compact, worth $140 million, in 2013 for education.
  •  From this money over five years $76 million will be spent on general education, $16 million on vocational education and $30 million on higher education.
