Russia will transfer military materials to Abkhazia, a Russian-occupied region of Georgia. The respective "agreement” was signed today.
Russian Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Fomin met with so-called Chief of Staff and so-called First Deputy Minister of Defence of breakaway Abkhazia Anatoly Khrulev in Moscow today.
The pair signed a so-called contract on military materials transfer to Abkhazia, the Russian Defence Ministry said in a press release.
According to the press release, this procedure is carried out within the "Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia on Alliance and Strategic Partnership”, an illegal deal that was signed on November 24 of 2014, outlining the "modernisation of the Armed Forces” of occupied Abkhazia.
Meanwhile at today’s meeting, "the Russian-Abkhazian cooperation prospects in military sphere as well as topical issues concerning Russian military base in Abkhazia and establishing of joint force grouping” have been discussed during the meeting, the press release said.
Russia keeps signing so-called deals and agreements with both breakaway Georgian regions – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia).
Tbilisi and the international community say that these "illegal deals” have no legal power, are against international law and attempt to annex the occupied regions.
