Georgia’s Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze, who is now in Strasbourg, attended a special reception of the Georgia-EU Friendship Group.

The Group was created last year to strengthen ties between the European Parliament (EP), the European Union (EU) and Georgia.

The group is comprised of members from all leading political parties of the EP.

I believe that the Georgia-EU Friendship Group will more strengthen our parliamentary diplomacy,” Kobakhidze said.

Kobakhidze stated that Georgia-EU relations are based on "common values”.

We should not spare efforts to further enhance relations,” Kobakhidze stated.

Kobakhidze highlighted that there is a "large-scale consensus” in Georgia that European integration is Georgia’s "only goal of foreign policy.”

The Parliament Speaker said that Georgia has achieved significant progress and this has come about not only by the country’s efforts but also with the support of allies.

Kobakhidze vowed the Parliament of Georgia would play an important role in the process of implementing democratic reforms and carrying out strong parliamentary control on relevant institutions.
