The Western Georgian city of Kutaisi and the Welsh city of Newport plan to expand their friendly ties through more joint activities.

Georgia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom (UK) Tamar Beruchashvili and the Mayor of Kutaisi, Shota Murghulia, paid a visit to Wales and met with the Mayor of the City of Newport, David Fouweather.

Kutaisi and Newport became twin cities in 2009. The meeting aimed at deepening the year-long cooperation with joint projects.

Beruchashvili and Murgulia also joined their colleagues from the UK in a roundtable where the parties shared their experience on implemented and ongoing projects.

The Georgian delegation visited an international sport village in Newport where they discussed internship opportunities for Georgians. They also went to the Kutaisi Walk – a walking area named after the Georgian city.

By the end of the working visit, Georgia’s Ambassador to the UK spoke about Georgian-UK relations, the reforms carried out in Georgia, and its economic potential.
