Today the Parliament of Georgia confirmed the bill on Vine and Wine with its third and final reading, which means the country now  has an updated legislation in the field.

Viticulture is unambiguously recognized by  Georgia as one of the economic priorities of the countr. We had to take the requirements of the local and international markets into account upon development of the legislative base,” head of Parliament’s Agrarian Committee Otar Danelia stated.

He added the adoption of the law would promote even higher quality Georgian wine, increase interest of international markets to the Georgian wine and create the reputation of a high- quality wine producing country for Georgia.

  • The Law on Vine and Wine was adopted in 1998 and has not been significantly amended since 2002.

The amended law defines the list of the "recommended vine species” according to the zones and sub-zones, specifies the vineyard categories and redefines spirit categories and production rules.

The law also offers new terminologies in line with  European standards.

Danelia announced that Georgia exported 25 ml bottles to 41 countries worldwide in January-May, 2017, which exceeds the similar index of 2016 by 64perent.
