June is yet again proving to be a difficult month for Georgia in terms of weather.

Heavy rainfall over the past several days has caused major infrastructural problems in the Samegrelo region in the western part of Georgia.

Most villages in this area were drastically flooded. Small village rivers have swollen over their riverbeds, flooding nearby agricultural lands, roads, and houses.

In the villages of Sachino and Kalgali, landslides occurred at several locations, damaging houses and blocking the central road. Roads were heavily flooded in several other villages.

Flood waters uprooted and swept away large trees.

Special commissions have been set up to estimate the financial loss in each municipality.

A major flash flood in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi two years ago in 2015, which was Tbilisi’s worst natural disaster in decades, also occurred in June.
