Georgia to play viral transit role connecting India to Europe

Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iran are teaming up to launch a new international corridor South-West Transport Corridor for transportation of transit freight.
The new corridor envisages transportation from the Persian Gulf and India to Europe.
Railway authorities from Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iran gathered in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi to discuss the new railway project South-West Transport Corridor whose main advantage is the reduction of the distance and delivery time two or threefold, as compared to other alternative routes, which provide cargo transportation within 30-40 days.
The project is very important as it links two big economies with fastest route. The project will increase cargo turnover on Iranian, Azerbaijani and Georgian railways,” said Levan Sulaberidze, Director of GR Logistics and Terminals, a full subsidiary of Georgian Railway.
Meanwhile, chairman of Azerbaijani Railway Javid Gurbanov said that cargo turnover between Europea, Pakistan, India and Iran is not large and the Corridor has huge potential in this regard.
Georgia will play an important transit role connecting China, Turkey and Europe via the Trans-Caspian international transport route which runs through China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and then through Turkey and Ukraine to Europe.
The first ever professionally completed map of the historic railway line linking Georgia with Azerbaijan and Turkey has been published to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the Georgian national railway.
Georgia and Armenia are jointly looking at ways to better harmonise the international transit corridor through Georgia – the E60 Highway – to ensure swift, efficient transporting of goods via European standard rods.
Georgia marks 20th anniversary of Baku-Tbilisi-Supsa project
Georgia is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Baku-Supsa project with Azerbaijan – the "project of the century” that transfers oil from Azerbaijan through Georgia to Turkey and on to Europe.
Two new logistic centres will be built in Georgia’s third largest city Kutaisi and in the village Kumisi, near capital of Tbilisi to cement Georgia’s reputation as logistic hub country.
European Commission’s Director-General for Mobility and Transport Henrik Hololei said Georgia has excellent potential and opportunities for investing in transport.
Georgian visa application centres will be launched in ten different cities in India.
Georgia, Romania, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have signed a document establishing the Black Sea-Caspian Sea Freight Transport Corridor today, opening new possibilities for connectivity and regional development in the region. The foreign ministers of all four countries met today in Bucharest, Romania to sign the deal.
