Tbilisi authorities are taking action to solve the parking problem in Georgia’s capital city.

This month the Tbilisi Mayor’s Office plans to announce a tender for private companies to come up with a way to resolve the major issue of lack of parking in Tbilisi.

Deputy Mayor Irakli Lekvinadze told local online media Ipress today the Mayor’s Office had already contacted one international firm who will carry out surveys and parking studies in 12 areas of the capital city.

Very soon we will have geological, technical-economic and financial outcomes regarding the locations and we will try to announce a tender for private companies about arranging underground and over-ground parking areas this month,” Lekvinadze said.

The Tbilisi official added this would be "a good project” as there was a severe lack of parking spaces in Tbilisi and new efforts to solve this problem would be hugely beneficial for pedestrians and drivers.

Exact details of how the parking problem will be solved, the project’s completion and pace of construction will depend on the company which wins the tender, said Lekvinadze.
