Georgia has adopted tighter security measures following today’s deadly blasts in Brussels, Belgium.

Latest reports say at least 31 people were killed and many more were seriously injured in the attacks at Brussels international airport and a city metro station earlier today.

"Following the terrorist attacks in Brussels, Georgia’s Interior Ministry has strengthened security measures at the country’s borders and airports. Also, there is tightened control over all strategic facilities,” Georgia’s Interior Ministry said in a special statement this evening.

The agency said patrol police had been given special instructions to implement "preventive measures”.

The statement also said patrol police would intensify its control at all public places to ensure security and avoid "possible unexpected development of events”.

The Ministry said all human and technological resources were being fully used to ensure security at Georgia’s air, land and sea borders.

The country’s Border Police was on full alert, the agency said.
