Florence – the Italian birthplace of the Renaissance cultural movement is hosting Georgian university students for an international workshop on urban identity and architecture.
The workshop Experiencing the Identity of Places and Communities in Florence started today and involved students from Italy, Belgium and Georgia for a week-long program of activities.
Over the next seven days students will attend presentations on architecture and urban landscape via the cultural lens but will also include visits to Florence's unique, iconic and historic monuments.
Participants of the week-long workshop will be guided through the 16th- 17th Century Medici Chapels in the city. Photo from tyle_r/Flickr.
The students will enjoy a guided tour to some of the city’s iconic and legendary places, such as the 16th-17th Century Medici chapels and the Uffizi Gallery Art Museum that featured works by famous Renaissance painters Sandro Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci.
Within the practical session, a workshop will challenge students to create traveller's maps using modern multimedia assets. The maps will highlight local monuments, traditions and cultural assets of urban spaces.
The workshop was organised by Professor Nana Iashvili of the Tbilisi Academy of Arts and Professor Paola Puma of the University of Florence.
The participation of Georgian students in the workshop was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia.
The international workshop will run until March 13.
