Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has congratulated the people of Estonia as the nation celebrates its Independence Day.

"Estonia is not only a true friend for us but also a model on our path to Euro-Atlantic integration,” Kvirikashvili wrote on Twitter.

Today marked the 98th anniversary of the country’s independence.

On this occasion Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili extended his congratulations to Estonia’s President Toomas Hendrik Ilves.

"Georgia attaches much importance to having friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Estonia,” Margvelashvili said.

"Taking our close cooperation into consideration, I am sure, thanks to our countries mutual efforts, the historic connection and close partnership will further deepen in the future for the good of our nations.”

Margvelashvili wished for peace and wellbeing for the Estonian nation.

Estonia signed its Declaration of Independence in 1918. One year later, on February 12, 1919, the Esonian Provisional Government decided to annually celebrate Estonia’s Independence Day on February 24.

It is a national holiday and is celebrated with fireworks, concerts and parties.
