A work-in-progress feature film about the life and woes of a Georgian shopkeeper has been selected by a prestigious Swiss film festival as one of the most promising new documentary films.

Director Shorena Tevzadze's documentary work Didube, The Last Stop will screen in the Rough Cut Lab co-production section of the 2016 Nyon International Film Festival, starting April 15.

The work-in-progress film was selected by Festival experts within a shortlist of four international film projects.

The Georgian film is one of a handful of films in the Rough Cut Lab co-production category in the running to meet global cinema experts and seek international co-production possibilities as the films are completed.

The Georgian filmmaker will now seek to meet cinema producers to finalise his production.

Didube, The Last Stop tells the story of Niko, a 65-year old owner of a small veterinarian clinic and shop in the middle of a busy train and bus station in Georgia's capital Tbilisi.

Struggling to save the shop from closure in face of dwindling business, Niko wonders about the meaning of his everyday life.

Tevzadze's film was selected to represent Georgian cinema at the 2015 edition of the Nyon Festival alongside five other films from the country.

The film also featured at the Caucadoc South Caucasus documentary film project in 2014 and the Eurasiadoc script development workshop in Yerevan, Armenia in 2013.

The documentary won financial support in a 2014 Georgian National Film Centre competition for project development.
