In one of the most original shows of the Christmas festive season in Tbilisi, the city's newest professional dance troupe will premiere a production that brings together contemporary ballet and jazz.

On December 26, the capital city's Dedaena Park will turn into an outdoor stage for the Giorgi Aleksidze Tbilisi Contemporary Ballet company to perform their debut performance of Pensativa, described as a "jazz ballet" show.

Earlier today the company shared video from a recent rehearsal on social media.

At the outdoor show the troupe will team up with the Tbilisi Big Band jazz ensemble.

Based on an idea by David Maziashvili, the 30-minute show will feature choreography by the dance company founder Mariam Aleksidze.

The premiere of Pensativa will be part of a diverse program of Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations in Tbilisi, which launch this Sunday at the central city park.

The Christmas festivities will include an art fair and exhibition, where exhibitions and music performances will be held along with a sale of handmade items.

On nearby Aghmashenebeli Ave, local artists will entertain visitors every day from December 25 to January 2, while a theatre performance will be held on a balcony of one of the houses on the recently renovated street.

Tbilisi Contemporary Ballet was founded by Mariam Aleksidze in early 2016.

Following in the footsteps of her father and late Georgian choreographer Giorgi Aleksidze, the former dancer of the State Ballet of Georgia staged a number of contemporary productions in Tbilisi over the recent years.

The official launch of the new company was held in October, when its dancers performed in Dovin-Doven-Dovli, a ballet conceived by Giorgi Aleksidze and staged by his daughter based on poetry by Georgia's celebrated 20th Century poet Galaktion Tabidze.
