Famous United Kingdom (UK)-based Georgian singer Katie Melua has been awarded a prestigious Medal of Honour for her efforts to promote Georgian culture abroad.

Melua received the award last night after hosting a concert at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre with the Women's Choir from the central Georgian city of Gori.

The medal was presented to Melua by Giorgi Abashishvili, the Head of the Administration of the President of Georgia, at the conclusion of the concert.

I feel this is something serious, so thank you very much. I love you all very much. I do hope to come back and hold another concert in Georgia," said Melua as she received the state award.

The Georgian singer performed 10 musical compositions from her new album together with the Women’s Choir from Gori.

This was Melua's last concert on her European tour of 28 countries.

Melua's latest album In Winter was officially released in October this year. On the album Melua performs one song, Dreams on Fire, accompanied by the Women's Choir from Gori.

Melua recently released a video for the single, filmed at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre.
