Georgia has been granted a $99 million loan to improve the water supply for nearly 62,000 households in three Georgian towns.
Today the Government of Georgia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $99 million loan to upgrade the water supply, sewerage and sanitation systems in Marneuli, Bolnisi, and Chiatura towns.
The project will bring a clean, reliable water supply to nearly 62,000 households.
The project will help meet the growing demand for reliable, safe water and sanitation — a high priority of the government,” said Yesim Elhan-Kayalar, ADB Country Director in Georgia.
The project was the sixth and last tranche of the $500 million multi-tranche financing facility for the Urban Services Improvement Investment Program, signed by Georgia and ADB on March 1, 2011.
ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members—48 from the region. In 2014, ADB assistance totaled $22.9 billion, including cofinancing of $9.2 billion.
