Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has attended an official reception hosted by the Japanese Embassy in Georgia celebrating Japan’s National Day – the Emperor’s birthday.

Kvirikashvili congratulated the Japanese nation on the holiday and spoke of the strong bond between the two countries.

Georgia and Japan share a history and loyalty towards traditions. In the modern world our countries are bonded with fundamental values: democracy, freedom, human rights and rule of law,” Kvirikashvili said.
I am thrilled that our cooperation is advancing on the grounds of these very principles. Japan and Georgia have been faithful partners since the establishment of diplomatic relations.”

The Georgian leader said that "unshaken position” of the Japanese government towards the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia was of "tremendous importance” to Georgia.

We highly appreciate the most significant moral and tangible support of the country and people of Japan, which has made considerable contribution to the economic and democratic advancement of Georgia over years,” he said.

Kvirikashvili noted bilateral relations had intensified recently and cooperation in trade, economy, arts and culture, education and tourism was steadily developing.

In 2017 Georgia and Japan will celebrate 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Kvirikashvili said that a number of events had been planned both in Georgia and Japan to mark the event.

I am confident that we will implement large project initiatives in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, tourism, environment and other sectors. Next year should be truly outstanding for advancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation,” the Georgian PM said.

Japanese Ambassador to Georgia Toshio Kaitani confirmed Japan’s continuous support for Georgia.

"We wish to congratulate you with democratic elections, along with the formation of a new Government and Parliament in Georgia. We are delighted that relations of your country with the European Union are progressing well, especially towards visa liberalisation, along with closer ties with NATO and other countries," he said.
