Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili has a new Adviser for Foreign Relations.
The country's former Ambassador to the United States (US) Tedo Japaridze was appointed to the position this week.
Japaridze's appointment was approved by Kvirikashvili on December 7, officially confirming the former chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of Parliament of Georgia, to his new position.
Japaridze served as chair of the committee during his membership of the Georgian Dream party from October 2012 to November 2016, while he also worked as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia from 2003 to 2004.
Born in 1946, his career as a public servant working in various Georgian Governmental agencies has spanned nearly three decades; starting with the position of First Deputy Chair of the UNESCO Affairs Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in 1989.
Japaridze is also widely known in diplomatic circles for his work as former Ambassador of Georgia to the United States, Canada and Mexico from 1994-2002.
In January 2016 he was elected Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
