This meeting had special importance as the leaders of Georgia and Uruguay had the first-time opportunity to exchange views,” said Tengiz Pkhaladze, Secretary of Georgia's President for Foreign Affairs.
Uruguay's firm support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and non-recognition policy of its occupied territories is crucial for our country," he added.
Pkhaladze said the two presidents discussed specific issues that would increase awareness, strengthen regional cooperation and contribute to the development of tourism and trade.
President Margvelashvili thanked his counterpart for Uruguay's firm support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and briefed him on the current situation and about the ongoing violation of human rights in Georgia's two occupied territories.
He also expressed his gratitude to President Vazquez for supporting the Resolution, adopted by the United Nations, recognising the right of return for refugees, internally displaced persons in Georgia and pointed out that Uruguay’s position was crucial for Georgia to gain support from Latin American and Caribbean countries.
