Expert translators bring Georgian literature to German readers

A creative group of Georgian and German translators are teaming up to make some of Georgia’s most fascinating literature available to German readers.
Four German and 12 Georgian translators came together on Saturday for a week-long seminar at Tbilisi's Goethe Institute.
The language experts are will work in Georgian-German pair groups to translate classical and contemporary Georgian works.
The seminars, which launched on Saturday, included talks on translations and literary trends as well as personal experiences of translating artistic literature.

The Georgian and German experts will begin joint translating once the seminars conclude at the end of this week.
The group of experienced German translators who travelled to Georgia's capital were Lydia Nagel, Martina Elizabeth Kempter, Claudia Steinitz and Eva Profousova.

While in Georgia they were tasked to review translations by Georgian professionals and share their experiences with their colleagues.
The seminars were organised by the Georgian National Book Centre and led by well-known Germany-based Georgian translator and expert Aleksandre Kartozia.
The seminars were held in recognition of Georgia being the Guest of Honour at the 2018 Frankfurt Book Fair, the largest global literary event staged annually in Germany.
