President appoints Giorgi Kvirikashvili as Prime Minister of Georgia

President Giorgi Margvelashvili has issued a decree appointing Giorgi Kvirikashvili as Prime Minister of Georgia.
The decree was issued early this morning and read: "Under Paragraph 8 of Article 80 of the Georgian Constitution Giorgi Kvirikashvili will be appointed as the Prime Minister of Georgia.”
This came after Parliament of Georgia gave a vote of confidence to the country’s new Government last night.
One hundred and ten Members of Parliament voted in favour of Kvirikashvili and his Cabinet while 19 voted against.
The next step is that Prime Minister Kvirikashvili should issue a decree appointing his ministerial nominees as Ministers. This must happen within the next two days.
Parliament of Georgia has approved a renewed Cabinet after the country's legislative body spent a full day debating the changes. 110 MPs voted in favour of the new Government while 19 MPs voted against it.
During the past six hours active discussions have been taking place at the Parliament of Georgia, where the Acting Prime Minister and ministerial nominees have been answering questions from the country’s lawmakers.
Today Georgia’s Parliament will vote and decide whether or not to support the country’s new Cabinet. An extraordinary plenary session of Parliament will convene at 12pm this afternoon.
Georgia’s Acting Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili answered the opposition United National Movement lawmakers’ questions in Parliament in the late afternoon, before the new legislative body votes for the Prime Minister and a new Cabinet tomorrow.
From today Georgia officially has a new Government. This morning Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili signed a decree officially appointing the new Ministers following last month's Parliamentary Elections.
