"We are looking forward to working with the new Parliament and Government of Georgia,” says United States (US) Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly.

The US Ambassador was today in the western city of Kutaisi to attend the first session of the ninth Parliament of Georgia.

Kelly told reporters it was an honour for him to be part of the "great day” and he was confident the US would continue its close cooperation with the country's new Parliament.

We already have a pretty deep level of cooperation and are ready to continue this cooperation,” said Kelly.

Today the inaugural session of the ninth Parliament officially opened in Kutaisi.

The first session of the newly-elected Parliament was opened by the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili.

Members of Parliament have already taken their oath of loyalty to the country.

In addition to the US Ambassador, today's first session was attended by the Patriarch of Georgia, the chairmen of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, representatives of diplomatic corps, head of the Central Election Commission and the media.
