Georgia’s State Security Service has detained a local man for defrauding an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) from the country’s occupied Abkhazia region.

Today the agency said a citizen of Georgia, only identified as Lasha Sh, promised the internally displaced individual he would receive an apartment in capital Tbilisi if he paid $6,000 USD.

The alleged offender promised to provide an apartment to the victim and said he had connections with officials from Georgia’s Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees.

On November 2 Lasha Sh met the internally displaced person to get half of the money, $3,000. We detained him when taking the sum,” Georgia’s State Security Service said.

The offence, if confirmed, envisaged six to nine years behind bars.
