The European Union (EU) is expanding its rural development projects in Georgia, aiming to develop more competitive and climate resilient agricultural practices across the country.
After started implementing the rural development projects first in Georgia’s Kazbegi, Lagodekhi and Borjomi areas and later in Akhalkalaki, Tetritskaro, Dedoplistskaro, Dusheti and Mestia, this time the EU focused on Georgia’s western Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
The Delegation of the EU to Georgia announced the EU launched call for proposals for the 10 million GEL (about $4.17 million/€ 3.80 million*) pilot rural development measures in Adjara.
This call for proposals will focus on diversification of the rural economy including support for more competitive and climate resilient agricultural practices, the promotion of viable off-farm economic activities and the sustainable management and protection of environmental resources,” read the press release published by the Delegation of the EU to Georgia.
The delegation of the EU to Georgia announced the deadline for the submission of concept notes was December 15, 2016.
The call for proposals was launched under the EU-funded European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) program, through with the EU supports rural development and agriculture in Georgia.
The EU launched the first call for proposals in 2014 for ongoing pilot rural development projects in Kazbegi, Lagodekhi and Borjomi, and another earlier in 2016 for which three more projects will be selected among Akhalkalaki, Tetritskaro, Dedoplistskaro, Dusheti and Mestia territorial units to start before the end of this year.
