The Government of Georgia is encouraging the private sector to invest more in the country’s hospitality and tourism sectors.

With this in mind Georgia’s Minister of Economy Dimitry Kumsishvili presented two new projects to investors today.

These projects are ‘50 Real Estates for Your Hotel’ and ‘Parking Areas on the Roads of Georgia’.

Today we presented 50 identified properties to the private sector where they can build hotels, create rest areas and panoramic viewing areas,” said Kumsishvili.

He noted tourism generated about $2 billion USD income for Georgia and it was important for the country to continue attracting investments in this industry.

About 508 hotels have opened in Georgia within the last three years, which was 58 percent more than the number of hotels open to tourists before 2013. There are 1,270 hotels available in Georgia today and half of them were created during our Government’s term because we created such special investment conditions that allowed investors to carry out their projects easily,” he added.

The Minister said projects already approved for the next two years would bring more than $1 billion in investments to the country.

Kumsishvili said at least 80 new hotels with 10,000 rooms collectively were currently being built in Georgia.

One of the main ideas of the ‘50 Real Estates for Your Hotel’ was to inject new life back into Georgia’s historical buildings. He accented the importance of Georgia’s historical buildings and asked the private sector to join the Government and preserve this heritage.

It is important to save our historical heritage together. As of today all [information about historically important] real estate has been uploaded on the webpage of the Economy Ministry where all properties are valued.”
There is real estate that we will auction and I am sure there will be high competition for them. There are also some historical buildings that we would like to sell investors at a symbolic price for future development,” said Kumsishvili.

The two projects, ‘50 Real Estates for Your Hotel’ and ‘Parking Areas on the Roads of Georgia’ were initiated by the National Agency of State Property and Georgian National Tourism Administration.
