Georgia and Estonia are forging deeper business relations and enhancing bilateral ties across a range of sectors.

A delegation of about 20 Estonian businessmen, led by Estonia’s former president Arnold Rüütel, are in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi today to attend the Georgia-Estonia Business Forum.

Georgia wants to attract more investments from Estonia. At this morning’s event Georgian officials told the foreign guests about the vast opportunities offered by Georgia’s business-friendly environment and ways both sides can benefit from closer ties.

Georgia stressed it had a favourable investment climate and there were many opportunities to do business in Georgia.

At the forum the Estonian businessmen said they were interesting in finding business partners in Georgia to cooperate in projects in the following sectors:

  • Engineering and construction
  • Agricultural equipment manufacturer
  • Business incubator
  • Forestry and timber production
  • Furniture
  • Gardening
  • Higher education

A key player at the forum was Estonian engineering firm IMECC OÜ, who with its partner company Innovaatio Oy Uusi Tehdas (New Factory Ltd), said it was interested in cooperating with local businesses in the mechanical engineering sector.

Meanwhile, a Georgian delegation representing state-owned shareholding company the Partnership Fund and Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency are on an official visit to Estonia to explore best practices and most effective ways to develop new businesses.

Together these two agencies will help improve the Start-up Georgia state program, which funds new businesses in Georgia as a way to foster entrepreneurial spirit and develop the economy.

Estonia, a growing leader in rapid development of global innovation, will share its experiences with Georgia of how to develop strategies to strengthen start-ups, how to improve business infrastructure to welcome new business ideas, and to create better conditions for young creative minds.
