Four political groups will unite and create a new political coalition for the upcoming October 8 Parliamentary Elections under the name of Georgia’s outstanding opera singer Paata Burchuladze.

The four parties made a joint statement this evening announcing their intentions to unite.

 The four uniting parties are:

  • Movement State for People - chaired by Paata Burchuladze;
  • Girchi - a political unity composed of former members of the previous ruling United National Movement (UNM);
  •  New Rights - a non-parliamentary opposition party; and
  •  New Georgia - a  political party chaired by former UNM member Giorgi Vashadze;

The name of the new political group is Paata Burchuladze-Movement State for People.

The parties decided to join us when we experience hard times. Now they will share all the burden and responsibilities with us,” Burchuladze stated.

While commenting on the new coalition, some members of the current ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party believed the involvement of former UNM members in the new coalition would encourage voters not to vote for them.
