The first four-star hotel will soon open in Abastumani, a small town in Georgia’s Samtskhe-Javakheti region that is famous for its hot sulphur baths and clear skies.

The Partnership Fund (PF), Georgia's state-owned shareholding company has already started negotiations with Georgia-based real estate company Redix Group to design a hotel project for Abastumani.

About $26 million USD was expected to be invested in the project to build a "high-class” hotel in Abastumani. The hotel, built in the settlement area of Agobili, will have 160 rooms, several restaurants, a conference hall, meeting room, swimming pool, club and spa.

Director of the PF's Investment Department Giorgi Cherkezishvili said currently only several guesthouses were operating in Abastumani and the new hotel would promote tourism in the area.

There is demand for high-class hotels in Abastumani. The PF’s strategy is to develop infrastructure in the regions and support private businesses there. This project would increase the awareness of the region and attract more tourists in Abastumani,” said Cherkezishvili.

Construction works were due to start in spring 2016 and be completed in 2018.

As well as sprawling landscapes, the hotel will boast spectacular night scenery. The area is regarded as having the clearest skies in the country and is home to the Georgian National Astrophysical Observatory.
