Georgia earns 19 medals at European Sumo Championship

A group of Georgian sumo wrestlers have won 19 medals at the 2016 European Sumo Championship in Poland.

Of the 19 medals two were gold, eight were silver and nine were bronze. 

More than 500 sportsmen from 17 countries participated in the competition, which was held from April 21-24.

Meanwhile on April 23 head of Georgia’s Sumo Union Tengiz Rukhadze was appointed vice president of  the Sumo Federation of Europe for a five-year term. 

The Sumo Federation of Europe congress also decided Georgia would host the 2017 Sumo European Championship.

Furthermore it was revealed three Georgian sumo wrestlers will take part in the 2017 Sumo World Championship in Poland. 

The sportsmen are Avtandil Tsertsvadze, Giorgi Meshvildishvili and Giorgi Kvichishvili.
