An internationally renowned French photographer of Slovenian origin is coming to Georgia as a special guest for the annual Tbilisi Photo Festival.

The acclaimed work of Klavdij Sluban will be presented in Georgia, through his exhibition ‘Life in exile’, which will go on display at Georgia’s Writer’s House until May 16.

During his career Sluban has won numerous prestigious awards.

The photos which Sluban took at Hauteville House in 2013 are part of a long tradition inspired by Victor Hugo’s home during his exile on Guernsey.

Through his black and white photos, Sluban explored the mysteries of this poetic palace, where Hugo spent his time in exile.

"I always appreciated to work in houses of famous classics. I visited Hauteville House, home to Victor Hugo for the fifteen years he spent in exile in Guernsey, for a long time. This was not my first visit to a writer’s home. I’d already seen Chekhov’s dacha in Yalta, and Akhmatova’s shared apartment in St. Petersburg” Sluban said.

Sluban, 42, won prestigious awards the Niépce Prize in 2000 and the Leica Prize in 2004.

His official website, highlighted that Sluban never inspired by immediate and sensational current affairs. " Sluban's numerous photography trips are permeated with literary references." website said.

Sluban learnt the subtleties of black and white printing under the guidance of Georges Fèvre. Although he held a Masters' degree in Anglo-American literature, he gave up teaching to commit wholly to photography.
