Georgia has strongly criticised a new video released by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) allegedly showing the execution of about 30 Ethiopian Christians in Libya.
The country’s Foreign Ministry released a statement that noted it was extremely concerned about the content of the video and said any act of terrorism was unacceptable.
"Georgia strictly condemns terrorism in all its forms, including [acts that are] motivated by ethnic and religious grounds,” said the Foreign Ministry’s written statement.
"We consider this terrorist act, together with other actions by ISIS, as the greatest crime against humanity.”
The Ministry also expressed hope the international community would further intensify its efforts to overcome the challenge of terrorism.
"The political conflict in Libya must urgently be solved so that the country can concentrate on its fight against terrorism and neutralise terrorist groups on its territory,” read the statement.
As well as condemning the acts of terrorism, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry offered its condolences to the victims’ families and their governments.
On Sunday ISIS released a 29-minute video that showed two groups of about 15 captives being executed by masked assailants. One group of people were beheaded and the other group were shot at close range.
The footage was described by onscreen text as "followers of the cross from the enemy Ethiopian Church."
A spokesman for the Ethiopian government said he could not confirm if the victims in the video were citizens of his country.
"We have seen the video but our embassy in Cairo has not been able to confirm that the victims are Ethiopian nationals," Redwan Hussein told Reuters.
"Nonetheless, the Ethiopian Government condemns the atrocious act."
