Georgia’s capital Tbilisi will host hundreds of banking sector representatives from around the globe at a special ceremony that honours banking industry performers from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

The Europe Banking Awards 2014, held in Tbilisi on May 13, will recognise industry players for their efforts in 2014. The event will take place at Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel and will reveal the winners in different categories.

While the ceremony has not yet taken place, among this year’s winners is TBC Bank CEO, Vakhtang Butskhrikidze. This information was released by the bank on its official website.

At the ceremony Butskhrikidze will receive a Europe Banking Awards 2014, in recognition of him being named CEO of the Year 2014 in the Central and Eastern Europe and CIS countries.

Furthermore, TBC Bank will receive the Best Bank in Georgia award for the fourth consecutive year at this year’s ceremony.

The Europe Banking Awards 2014 ceremony is organised by EMEA Finance magazine. The winners were selected based on EMEA Finance's criteria.

Butskhrikidze is the first Georgian executive to be acknowledged by the magazine for his professional achievements in a regional context.

The Europe Banking Awards recognise the achievements of leading commercial and investment banks in the EMEA region, which stand out among their peers, demonstrate leadership in their home markets, top the performance and deal-making tables both in individual countries and across the region.

The awards consider various performance and structural factors, such as market share, growth in important product classes, profitability and corporate strategy.

"TBC Bank continues to help drive the fast moving Georgian economy forward, and it is easy to see why with domestic leading in key categories like retail, SME, micro-loans delivering impressive growth year over year,” said publisher and CEO of EMEA Finance magazine, Christopher Moore.

"The Bank is effectively employing all its funding opportunities, not least the "bread and butter” of banking - customer deposits - where growth in deposits registered a very significant 15 percent. The Bank's ability to continue to grow market share and increase profits year-over-year is a result of the solid leadership demonstrated by CEO Vakhtang Butskhrikidze. We are proud to recognise him as EMEA Finance's CEO of the year in our annual Europe Banking Awards,” Moore said.

In response, the TBC Bank official said he was proud to receive the Best Bank award.

"This continued recognition is testament to the tireless, daily contribution of our outstanding team to the Bank’s sustained success and development. I am also humbled to receive this recognition as CEO of the Year and would like to once again thank my team for their collaboration and support throughout my work at TBC Bank,” commented Butskhrikidze.

Meanwhile, Barclays and UBS were named Best Investment Banks in Georgia 2014 for their work on the TBC Bank IPO.
