Solidarity Fund finances treatment of 70 ill children

The Government-initiated Solidarity Fund has financed the treatment of 70 children and young patients suffering from cancer.

Government Administration deputy head Nino Kobakhidze emphasized more than 40,000 employees from 240 public institutions and 16 private companies had contributed to the Solidarity Fund in the past seven months.

In total, the Fund had mobilised 2.12 million GEL since it launched in August 2014. Of this money, 1,757,000 GEL has already been approved for the treatment of 44 patients in Georgia and 25 patients in the clinics of Germany, Turkey, Israel, Italy and France.

Kobakhidze said the the problem of financing oncology treatment for people under the age of 22 had practically been solved throughout the whole country thanks to the new Fund.

The Fund was created following the proposal of the Prime Minister, which encouraged the public and private sector to donate money that would be distributed to cover the cost of treatment for ill children and other priority social needs.
