A Georgian opera singer has been as acknowledged as the best singer of Germany’s Magdeburg Theatre.
Baritone Gocha Abuladze is not widely known in Georgia but has gained recognition and a strong following in Germany, Italy and Britain after winning the Citta di Ferrara international vocal competition in 2011.
This week Abuladze was awarded a special prize that acknowledged him as the best singer at Germany’s Magdeburg Theater.
He is the lead soloist of the theatre but has performed in a variety of European countries over the past five years.
The Georgian baritone has performed Masetto/Don Giovanni in Montpellier, Figaro/Le Nozze di Figaro at Theater Magdeburg and Tomsky/The Queen of Spades at Grange Park Opera.
While Abuladze studied at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, he performed several roles at the Conservatoire Opera Studio from 2005-2009.
In 2011 he won the Citta di Ferrara international vocal competition and also received a special prize by Daniele Barioni that year also.
In 2012 he added the Critics Prize of the Zandonai-competition in Riva del Garda to his collection after finishing ahead of 200 other singers. Besides the honour, the prize included a concert performance conducted by Italian maestro Marco Boemi.
