Georgia’s Prime Minister Iraki Garibashvili has met with chairperson of the National Democratic Institute (NDI), former United States Secretary of State Madeleine Albright within the framework of the Munich Security Conference.

At today's meeting the pair discussed the reforms ongoing in Georgia and regional security issues.

Their discussion also touched upon Georgia-US bilateral relations and NDI’s business plans in Georgia.

The meeting focused on Georgia's Euro-Atlantic perspective. It was noted that the decision to offer Georgia a comprehensive  support package at the NATO Summit in Wales reflected Georgia’s desire to move to the highest level of relations with the Alliance.

Albright positively assessed all the reforms the Georgian authorities were carrying out in terms of the rapprochement with the Alliance.

The Prime Minister and the NDI official discussed the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia and relations with Russia. The two parties expressed their concern over the so-called treaty signed by the Russian Federation with the Abkhazian separatist regime. Both parties also condemned the planned signature of a similar agreement between the Tskhinvali de facto government and Moscow.

Garibashvili thanked Albright for the US’s firm support towards the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. He also underlined the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries and expressed his hope for further deepening bilateral relations.
