New cable car for Turtle Lake in Tbilisi

Getting to the top of Turtle Lake will soon get easier for Tbilisi locals and guests.
A project has been launched to create a new cable car that takes guests up to Turtle Lake, on the top of a hill that overlooks the Vake district.
Tbilisi City Hall announced a tender to develop and build a new cableway this week. There was an existing cableway in place however this was old and needed to be completely renewed, said officials.

Tbilisi City Hall will carry out the project with the Tbilisi Transport Company.
The total cost of the tender was 1.1 million GEL. The tender winning company will be required to complete the rehabilitation works within 210 days of signing the contract.
The new cable car should completely meet the needs of people with disabilities.
The rehabilitation works was planned within the Municipal Transport Infrastructure Development project.
In a few weeks’ time a new funicular is set to open making it easier for locals and guest to access Turtle Lake in Tbilisi.

Half a century after its original opening, the cable car to Turtle Lake has returned to serve Tbilisi locals and guests.
