Georgia is tightening its diplomatic ties with Caribbean countries.

For the first time in the country’s history Georgia took part in an annual gathering of the Caribbean community - the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) – held in the framework of the 70th session of the United Nation’s General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the United States (US).

Georgia’s Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili spoke at the meeting. He said deepening relations between the two regions was obvious judging by an increasing number of bilateral meetings, visits and establishing diplomatic representation between Georgia and Caribbean countries.

In this regard, Kvirikashvili stressed the recent opening of Georgia’s Embassy in Cuba, which he hoped would help strengthen cooperation between Georgia and the Caribbean. Georgia’s top diplomat said his country planned to soon cover the whole Caribbean community.

"Georgia is a reliable friend and steadfast partner who contributes to global peace and security,” Kvirikashvili said at the meeting.

Good governance, education, tourism and justice were named as possible fields of cooperation, where the meeting participants expressed their desire to share Georgia’s reforms and experience.
