Record number of grapes processed in 24 hours in Georgia

A record number of wine grapes have been processed in 24 hours in Georgia’s wine producing Kakheti region.

On September 23 Georgian farmers processed 6,722 tonnes of grapes – a 25-year record high, announced Georgia’s National Wine Agency.

As of today about 50,000 tonnes of grapes have been processed this season, of which 21,000 were of the Rkatsiteli grape variety, 22,000 tonnes were Saperavi, 1,600 tonnes were Kakhuri Mtsvane and 6,200 tonnes were of other grape varieties.

By selling this yield, farmers already earned a share of 30 million GEL, and this year’s harvest is not over yet.

In total 74 wine producing companies were involved in grape processing works in Kakheti including 18 wine enterprises that were hired by the state.
