Georgia to host prestigious U19 football tournament in 2017

Georgia will host one of the most prestigious European football tournaments in 2017.

The UEFA executive committee announced their decision to hold the European Under 19 Championship final tournament for the year 2016/2017 in Georgia yesterday.

"This is great news! I think that holding this championship in Georgia will be a very important occasion for our football,” Georgian Football Federation's Zviad Sichinava said today.

He noted Georgia had never hosted such prestigious football tournament.

Tomorrow heads of the Georgian Football Federation will hold a press conference at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in response to Georgia's selection as tournament hosts.

Meanwhile Georgia will also host two matches of the UEFA Under 19 Championship elite round in 2015 and the whole qualifying round of the tournament in 2016.
