Dozens of people in west Georgia have come together in an immense act of unity to save the life of a teenage girl and several others who got into difficulty in the Black Sea.

The 13-year-old found herself in trouble while swimming at the Black Sea coastal town of Ureki.

A post on the Batumi Facebook page described the incident, which happened last week.

Several rescuers noticed the girl’s distress and went into the water in an attempt to save the teenager.

But their efforts were in vain and they too needed rescuing after heavy currents prevented them from making it back to shore.

People on the beach saw the situation unfold; dozens rallied together, formed a human chain and waded out into waist-deep water to help the rescuers and the teenage girl.

The joint efforts saw the teenage girl and her would-be rescuers make it back to shore safely.

The efforts of everyone involved were praised by others at the scene.
