Georgia attracts growing number of visitors

More than three million international guests spent time in Georgia this year, which shows growing tourism.

An increase in visitor numbers was reflected in latest statistics, which showed the country enjoyed increased number of visitors in July 2015.

Latest data from the Information-Analytical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs showed in July this year the number of visitors to the country was 9.5 percent higher than in the same month in 2014.

Meanwhile in July 2014 visitors’ number was up to 9.8 percent compared to the same period of 2013.

The data showed Georgia welcomed 737,696 visitors in July 2015. Of this 336,664 were tourists. That was a 2.2 percent increase year-on-year (y/y).

Meanwhile last month 182,693 visitors used Georgia as a transit country - a 24.7 percent increase from last year.

The remaining 218,339 people came for other purposes, which was a 10.4 percent increase compared to 2014.

Statistic showed Turkey led the list of countries whose citizens visited Georgia last month.

The highest number of visitors came from Turkey (12 percent more), Azerbaijan (7.9 percent more), Armenia (11.9 percent more), Russia (6.6 percent more) and Ukraine (0.6 percent more).

A positive trend was also observed with visitors from European Union (EU) countries.

In terms of the increasing number of arrivals to Georgia in January-July period, the following countries traditionally took the leading positions: Lithuania (23 percent), Czech Republic (23 percent), Germany (15 percent), Great Britain (15 percent), Latvia (15 percepercent the Netherlands (15 percent).

Georgia experienced an increased number of visitors from Central Asian countries - United Arab Emirates (768 percent increase) and Saudi Arabia (137 percent increase).

Georgia recorded a 32 percent increase in visitors from Kazakhstan.

The number of arrivals to Georgia from Eastern European countries was made up by 48 percent from Belarus and 32 percent from Moldova. Additionally 12 percent more visitors came from the United States (US).

As for January-July 2015, there were 3,069,999 visitors to Georgia, which was 4.9 percent more than the same time of 2014.
