The Black Sea Trade & Development Bank (BSTDB) has donated $50,000 to the Tbilisi flood relief fund to help Tbilisi Zoo and the affected residential area recover from the devastating flood on June 13.

Last month’s flood demolished much of Tbilisi Zoo and many of the animals died in the flood or were buried by the debris. Additionally, 19 people were killed in the disaster and several are still missing. Dozens of houses were destroyed and many were left homeless.

Officials estimated the overall damage exceeded 100 million GEL.

BSTDB president Ihsan Ugur Delikanli sent an official letter to the head of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) Giorgi Kadagidze to inform him of BSTDB’s financial contribution to the Tbilisi flood relief fund.

"Mr. Kadagidze I am pleased to inform you that following our discussion in Tbilisi, the Black Sea Trade & Development Bank decided to contribute to the recovery efforts to tackle the consequences of the disastrous flood happened in Tbilisi in June. On this note BSTDB has donated $50,000 to the Tbilisi Zoo Fund,” Delikanli wrote in his letter, revealed today by NBG.
