Members of European Parliament (MEPs) have recognised Georgia’s reform progress and commended the country's efforts to move closer to Europe.

A MEP delegation, led by chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok, is paying a visit to Georgia to appraise the counntry's reform efforts.

"We support Georgia’s territorial integrity and we do not recognise Russia’s occupational policy,” Brok said after a meeting at Georgia’s Foreign Ministry today.

The delegation also met Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. The sides talked about the current tense situation at Georgia’s occupied regions and nearby villages.

Brok said his delegation would go to Khurvaleti village this afternoon, which bordered the Russian occupied Georgian region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) to learn more about the situation on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s press office said the MEPs welcomed Georgia’s reform progress, especially the Interior Ministry, Prosecutor’s Office and justice reforms.

"They also said Georgia had shown great progress in its Euro-integration process,” the press office said.

The sides reconfirmed the implementation of Georgia’s Association Agreement with the European Union (EU) was the key priority in Georgia-EU relations.
