European Council (EC) President Donald Tusk has rescheduled his visit to Georgia.
The European Union (EU) top official will arrive in Georgia on July 20 for a two-day visit.
News of Tusk’s visit was shared by President Giorgi Margvelashvili’s Administration today.
Initially Donald Tusk was scheduled to arrive in Georgia on July 14 on his first visit to the country as EC President but his visit was cancelled at the last minute due to ongoing unrest in Greece.
While in Georgia Tusk will meet with President Margvelashvili in a face-to-face meeting and also in an extended format, after which the leaders will hold a joint press conference.
Tusk will also hold meetings with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili and members of opposition political parties.
The EC President is also due to visit Heroes Square and lay a wreath at the memorial of Georgia’s fallen heroes.
Meanwhile on the second day of his visit, Tusk and President Margvelashvili will address the peacekeeping contingent of the EU Central African Republic Mission at the President’s Administration.
The EC President’s visit to Georgia has been highly anticipated since the Riga Summit, where Georgia received a promise from the EU that the country would be granted a visa free travel regime if it met certain criteria by 2015.
