Tbilisi has been saved from a potential disaster after two metal drums containing liquid chlorine were found among the Tbilisi flood debris and recovered.
Emergency forces from Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs discovered two containers filled with liquid chlorine that were lost during the Tbilisi flood.
The barrels were found on the territory of former public swimming pool Laguna Vere, which largely suffered from the June 13 disaster.
The Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Incident Response Group successfully removed the containers and transported them to a safer place out of the city, where they will be adequately dealt with.
The metal drums were filled with liquid chlorine and no product leaked during or after the disaster.
The containers were previously used to disinfect the water of the Laguna Vere pool.
Liquid chlorine can cause potentially serious injuries to people, and those exposed to chlorine (particularly gas) often require medical treatment.
