Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili has met British Prime Minister David Cameron and other European leaders in Slovakia on the sideline of the Bratislava Global Security Forum (GLOBSEC).
The Slovakian capital hosted the event for the 10th time, and the Georgian President’s Administration said: "Georgia’s participation in this, as one of the most important conferences in the world on security issues, is of a distinguished importance”.
Cameron and Margvelashvili discussed regional and global security.
"The active participation of Georgia in NATO and European Union (EU) peacekeeping missions, which contributes to enhancement of the Euro-Atlantic security, was also noted,” the President’s Administration said.
The British PM expressed his "deep sorrow” over the natural disaster in Tbilisi and expressed his condolences and support to the Georgian people after the June 13 deadly flash flood.
"The sides discussed the close political and economic relations between the two countries and spoke about the prospect of enhancing cooperation,” the President’s Administration said.
Margvelashvili thanked Cameron for his country’s support to Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the UK’s non-recognition policy of the occupied territories of Georgia.
In turn, Cameron promised his assistance to the Georgian side in its European integration process and implementation of the essential elements agreed at last year's NATO Summit in Wales.
Meanwhile the Georgian President met other European leaders in a face-to-face format in Bratislava today including the presidents of Slovakia, Croatia and Poland.
Earlier, Margvelashvili opened the Georgian-Slovak business forum in Bratislava, which was organised by the Ministry of Economy of Slovakia and SARIO Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency.
The forum aimed to boost investment, trade relations and business opportunities between the two countries, and also the establishment of new, bilateral business relations for Georgian and Slovak companies.
Prior to the forum Margvelashvili held a meeting with the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Slovakia Vazil Hudak, where the friendly relations and economic cooperation between Georgia and Slovakia were highlighted.
